Yesterday, the Kurdish “People’s Protection Forces” (YPG) captured a strategic hill in the northern part of the Al-Hasakah Governate. The YPG killed scores of Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) fighters at Tal Zinkaat – a hill located west of the predominately Kurdish city of Ras Al-‘Ayn – before declaring the area under control.
The U.S.-led “Anti-ISIS Coalition” has launched 33 airstrikes in east Syria over the last 48 hours; specifically, targeting ISIS gatherings in the Deir Ezzor and Al-Hasakah Governates. According to a source in Al-Qamishli, U.S. airplanes bombarded Al-Shadadi 7 times yesterday, destroying an ISIS weapons depot in the process. The source also added that coalition planes attacked the Al-Hasakah village of Jabal ‘Abdel-‘Aziz – a few kilometers away from Syrian Arab Army positions.
14 airstrikes were reported in the besieged city of Kobane (‘Ayn Al-‘Arab), providing much needed assistance for the entrenched YPG forces. On Monday, the YPG captured the strategic Tal-Sha’eer from ISIS fighters after violent clashes for a week. The airstrikes are providing the beleaguered city with much needed aid against the ISIS onslaught; however, according to a source in Al-Hasakah, 6 YPG fighters were killed earlier today when a jet mistakenly targeted the latter in Kobane.
