The Israeli authorities released 12 year old Palestinian, Dima Al-Wawi, on Sunday after she spent more than 2 months in prison for attempting to stab an Israeli settler in the occupied West Bank.

Wawi was given a warm welcoming by the residents of Hebron upon her arrival from the Israeli prison.

According to the AFP, Wawi was handed over to the Palestinian authorities at the Tulkarem crossing point into the northern countryside of the West Bank.

Dima was arrested on February 9th when she was apprehended at the entrance of an Israeli settlement in the occupied West Bank – she was carrying a knife.

She was then sentenced by the Israeli courts to 4 months in prison for attempted murder and possession of a deadly weapon.

Wawi was the youngest prisoner in the Israeli penal system.
