BEIRUT, LEBANON (1:00 P.M.) – U.S. Senator Marco Rubio blamed the recent power outages in Venezuela on an explosion at the German Dam in the Bolivar State.
The problem? There is no German Dam. Rubio mistook journalist German Dam’s name for an actual site in Venezuela.
“Today another transformer explosion at the German Dam in Bolivar State caused another massive blackout,” tweeted Rubio on Saturday.
“The result? Critically ill patients have died, the #Caracas metro remains out of service & few if any flights have arrived at or departed from Caracas in over 20 hours,” he added
In response to Rubio’s tweet, the South American journalist told the U.S. Senator that he confused his name for the actual source of the power outages in Venezuela.
“Senator @marcorubio, an important transformer exploded in Bolívar and that, in part, again collapsed the Venezuelan Electric System; however it was not in a dam, much less german,” the South American journalist tweeted.

Rubio has been one of the most vocal U.S. politicians against the government of Venezuela; he has often used Twitter to express his opinion on the South American nation.
