BEIRUT, LEBANON (11:20 A.M.) – A senior official from the “White Helmets” (var. Syrian Civil Defense) organization called on the United Nations and the international community to help save their remaining members that are trapped in southwest Syria, the Reuters News Agency reported this morning.
One of the founding members of the White Helmets, Majd Khalaf, said that many of their personnel are still trapped in southwest Syria, adding that they need to be evacuated to Idlib in order to evade potential capture by the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and Russian Reconciliation Center.
“We want the U.N. or any international agency to remove the White Helmet volunteers from Deraa to [rebel-held] Idlib so we can continue to work in the north of Syria” Khalaf stated, as quoted by the Reuters News Agency.
“It is so hard when White Helmets have to leave people behind – and they also have to start their lives over,” he added.
Last week, the Israeli Defense FOrces (IDF) carried out a special operation to evacuate at least 422 members of the White Helmets that were trapped along the border of the occupied Golan Heights region.
The 422 members of the White Helmets were later transported to Jordan by the Israeli authorities.
