BEIRUT, LEBANON (2:20 P.M.) – The Iranian military, in particular, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), is one of the foreign forces invited by the Syrian government to take part in operations inside the country.
However, since their entry into the Syrian War, there have been constant rumors about their whereabouts and their activities.
With the help of Syrian military sources, Al-Masdar was able to pinpoint the locations where the Iranian military, both IRGC and allied forces, are present.
As illustrated in the map above, the Iranian military and their allied paramilitaries currently possess a large presence in the Euphrates River Valley. The cities of Albukamal, Al-Mayadeen, and Deir Ezzor have IRGC personnel present.
These Iranian military units are working with the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) in their current battle against the Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL/IS/Daesh).
Other areas with a large Iranian military presence include Al-Safira (largest Iranian base in northern Syria), Al-Zahra’a, Nubl, Sayyeda Zaynab, Yalda, Salma, Tal Al-Eis, and the eastern region of Homs.
