BEIRUT, LEBANON (11:00 A.M.) – China built the world’s first amphibious drone boat and unveiled it to the world on April 8th, 2019, the Global Times reported.
According to Global Times, the drone boat, dubbed the Marine Lizard, was built by the China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation.
Citing military analysts, the Global Times said this drone boat is capable of carrying out both land and water operations, while also forming a combat triad with aerial drones and other drone ships.
The Marine Lizard reportedly passed delivery checks and left the factory on April 8th in Wuhan, capital of Central China’s Hubei Province, CSIC revealed on Friday via Sina Weibo.
“In ship form, the 12-meter-long Marine Lizard is a trimaran propelled by a diesel-powered hydrojet and can reach a maximum speed of 50 knots while maintaining stealth,” the Global Times reported.
The drone boat reportedly has the ability to release four continuous track units that are hidden under their belly and then travel up to 20km/hr on land.
“The Marine Lizard’s payloads include an electro-optical system and a radar system. In the weapon department, it is equipped with two machine guns and a vertical launching system for anti-ship and anti-aircraft missiles, the manager said, noting it can autonomously sail, avoid obstacles and plan routes,” Global Times continued.
An expert told the publication that the drone boat is suitable for island assault operations as it can lead an assault after the first wave of artillery and airstrikes.
