Earlier today, a large explosion rocked Hajeewa Sakr (Sakr Island) as an Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) militant detonated a car bomb near a residential neighborhood, killing 3 civilians and wounding 11 others in the process. The 104th Airborne Brigade of the Republican Guard, led by Brigadier General Issam Zahreddine (pictured above), responded promptly to this terrorist act, attacking ISIS militants on the northeastern end of the Island.

A bloody confrontation ensued between the 104th Brigade and the ISIS militants, resulting in the most violent firefight on this island thus far. According to a military source, ISIS suffered heavy losses at Hajeewa Sakr, with over 40 militants’ killed-in-action (KIA) by the 104th Brigade. The source also add that 22 ISIS fighters were captured after the battle; however, the culprit who detonated the car bomb is believed to be still at large.
