BEIRUT, LEBANON (4:10 P.M.) – Several hours ago, as the siege on Deir Ezzor was just being lifted by Syrian troops on the ground, the Russian naval grouping which operates in Syrian waters fired several Kalibr cruise missile at ISIS positions near the city.
The Russian warship which delivered the strike was the Admiral Essen, a frigate.
Both the warship and the ordinance it delivered represent cutting-edge weapons technology, the latest available to the Russian Navy.
Based on video evidence, it can be said that Admiral Essen unleashed a volley of three missiles, virtually all of which hit their clearly designated targets.
The Russian Navy often employs cruise missiles during critical periods of pro-government offensives to strike recently identified strategic targets at times when the Russian air grouping is busy elsewhere and with other targets.
