BEIRUT, LEBANON (6:10 P.M.) – UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura met with the Syrian opposition High Negotiations Committee (HNC) delegation headed by Nasr al-Hariri in Geneva on Friday.
This is for what is believed to be their last session with the UN diplomat in the fifth round of intra-Syrian talks.
Members of the Riyadh-backed opposition group arrived at the Palace of Nations without three of their Kurdish representatives, after the delegates belonging to the Kurdish National Council announced their withdrawal from this week’s negotiations.
The three representatives have stated that they would no longer take part in the talks until members of the HNC began to fully address the Kurdish question.
Later in the day, the UN special envoy is expected to meet with several other participants in the proximity talks, including the Syrian government delegation, led by the country’s ambassador to the UN Bashar al-Jaafari.
De Mistura is also expected to hold a press-conference on the results of the talks.
