DAMASCUS, SYRIA (6:50 P.M.) – 40 Turkish-backed prisoners of war were released from Efrin prison on Saturday in a bid by the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) to relieve tensions between warring parties in the region.

Jaysh Al-Thuwar, an Arab SDF faction, facilitated the prisoner release. The captured fighters are expected to arrive in rebel-held areas near Azaz shortly.

Over the past year, the Turkish Armed forces and aligned rebel proxies have repeatedly clashed with the SDF at the Kurdish Efrin enclave in northwestern Aleppo.

In the past 24 hours alone, Turkish artillery shells have struck SDF positions at Menagh Airport, Maaranaz, Ayn Daqnah and Tall Bilouna.
