DAMASCUS, SYRIA (5:30 P.M.) – Earlier today, Failaq Al-Rahman (Free Syrian Army group) scored a direct hit with a guided anti-tank missile in the Syrian capital, thereby setting one of the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) armored vehicles ablaze.
Leaving the tank crew no time to escape, Islamist insurgents fired a US-manufactured TOW missile directly into the side armor of a ‘2S1 Gvozdika’ and somehow managed to ignite its fuel tank, thereby leading to certain death for the SAA crew:
The incident occurred on the frontline in Ayn Tarma, an embattled east Damascus suburb.
According to Al-Masdar News field correspondent Ibrahim Joudeh, the targeted vehicle belonged to the SAA’s Republican Guard which has its 105th and 106th Brigades deployed in the region.
The 2S1 Gvozdika is a Soviet-manufactured self-propelled howitzer artillery vehicle, hundreds of which are in service with the SAA across the country.
