DAMASCUS, SYRIA (9:40 A.M.) – Fierce clashes broke out in the eastern city of Deir Ezzor as the Syrian Army resumes counter offensive in bid to lift the siege on the parts it controls.

The battles were centered on the Cemetery Area located to the west of the city’s airbase, where the government troops, backed by local national defense forces, attacked the Islamic State fighters using tanks and heavy machineguns.

According to a military source, scores of jihadists were killed in the operation which aims at breaking the siege on the Deir Ezzor airbase; the longstanding Army bastion in the eastern province.
