BEIRUT, LEBANON (3:25 A.M.) – The Syrian Army is deploying its Tochka ballistic missile systems to Damascus for use against armed rebel groups operating in the city’s East Ghouta region.
Visual confirmation of the Syrian Army’s transferal of such strategic weapons towards the country’s capital emerged just hours ago with the releasing of a video by Syrian troops showing the arrival of a second, massive armored convoy near Damascus.
The video also shows the convoy possessing at least one Smerch heavy rocket artillery unit.
Special weapon systems aside, the bulk of the second convoy is shown by the recently released footage to include T-55 battle tanks, BMP-1 infantry fighting vehicles and cannon-armed trucks.
According to military-affiliated sources, the second convoy (now arrived in Damascus) has come from the province of Idlib. Whilst unique weapon systems like the Tochka and Smerch spotted in it belong to special purpose units, most of the armor and trucks belong to the Tiger Forces Division.
