BEIRUT, LEBANON (6:45 A.M.) – Combat footage (below) has been released by the Syrian Ministry of Defense showing part of the Syrian Army’s ongoing operation against Islamic State forces in southern Damascus.
The video offers insight into some of the tactics being employed by Syrian Army armored assault groups currently storming the districts of Yarmouk Camp and Hajjar al-Aswad.
It can be seen that whilst older T-55 battle tanks (which are slower and less protected) are used to shell ISIS positions from stand-off ranges, more modern T-72 models along with BMP-2 infantry fighting vehicles are sent right up to the edge of the engagement line and fire away at point-blank range.
According new information, the Syrian Army’s main ground assault has not even begun yet due to ongoing preparations by elite Tiger Forces Division which only arrived in the southern Damascus area at some point in the last two days.
