BEIRUT, LEBANON (3:07 P.M.) – Russian units of the International Mine Action Centre searching for explosives among Palmyra’s ancient ruins, and residential areas of the city, shows footage released on Saturday.
According to the commander of the mine clearance unit of the Russian Armed Forces’ International Mine Action Centre, Colonel Valery Avdienko, the detachment has begun deminining the outskirts of the city, as well as its historical parts and areas inside the centre of the city.
“Today, the detachment began demining historical parts and residential areas of Palmyra,” Avdienko said.
“Work has been organised on the outskirts of the city, in the historical part and inside the city. Within a short period of time, the first 5-6 working hours, more than 120 explosive devices were eliminated,” he continued.
