BEIRUT, LEBANON (10:30 A.M.) – Video footage (below) has been released showing Russian military police units taking position of weapons and ammunition handed over by recently surrendered Syrian rebel fighters.
Specifically, the loot comes from the stockpiles of militant groups that until their complete surrender to government forces in mid-April were operating out of Syria’s eastern Qalamoun region.
A range of weapons and assorted ammunition – some of it build and or from NATO countries – is presented in the footage including .50 caliber ammunition, mortar shells and even Yugoslav-made M79 Osa rocket launchers.
Previous video footage of the arms handed over by eastern Qalamoun rebels shows that they also possessed more sophisticated infantry support weapons like the US-built TOW and West European-built MILAN anti-tank systems.
