BEIRUT, LEBANON (4:30 P.M.) – The Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD) has released footage recorded from the targeting pod of a Russian warplane showing the aircraft carrying out a precision strike against an ISIS multiple-launch rocket system (MLRS) in eastern Hama Governorate.
As the video clearly shows, the Russian warplane scores a direct hit on the designated target. The specific munition delivered appears to have been a bomb (likely of the 500 kilogram warhead class) rather than a missile.
ISIS has been noted to use MLRS systems in eastern Hama lately in order to disrupt the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) lines of communication with stand-off fire. Such firepower has also been employed by the terrorist group to try and destroy the SAA’s rear bases in the region.
Despite the seemingly secondary nature of the eastern Hama offensive against ISIS by pro-government forces, especially since the Desert Hawks withdrew, the Russian Aerospace Forces (RuAF) nonetheless remain active over the skies of this region in support of the operation.
