BEIRUT, LEBANON (11:30 A.M.) – The Russian Air Force is on the roll, hunting down scores of tanks and machine-gun mounted trucks of the Islamic State (ISIS) in Syria. The video footage (below) shows operations of Russian Ka-52 attack helicopters in action against ISIS east of Palmyra along the road to Arak.
The operations of the Russian Air Force are being conducted in support of a widescale offensive launched by the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) with the ultimate aim of reaching Deir Ezzor city in Syria’s east, which is currently under attack and siege by ISIS.
The support by the Russian Air Force seems to have paid off, as on Wednesday Syrian Army’s 5th Corps backed by Palestinian paramilitary Al-Quds brigade and National Defense Forces (NDF) made a significant advance against ISIS in the same area east of Palmyra, and captured the whole Mustadirah mountain chain (marked with “1” on the featured map).
As a result, government forces have surrounded Arak gas field and Arak town from three different flanks. Both sites are crucial due to their strategic location along Palmyra – Deir Ezzor highway.
Below is the footage of the Russian Air Force operations in the area:
