BEIRUT, LEBANON (3:05 P.M.) – Russia’s strategic rocket forces conducted a test for an experimental nuclear warhead last night. The new warhead is designed to counter the latest Western anti-ballistic missile systems.

Last night, Russia test launched an intercontinental ballistic missile carrying a new generation re-entry warhead from the Kapustin Yar rocket trialing range in Astrakhan Oblast. Footage of the launch was released by the Russian Ministry of Defence today.

The warhead, still in the experimental stage of its design, is a response to more modern anti-ballistic missile systems that have been produced by the United States and deployed throughout Europe and East Asia over the last several years.

According to sources, a number of anti-ballistic missile defeating countermeasures built into the warhead were tested whilst it was in flight, however, no details on what these were have been released by the Russian Ministry of Defence.
