DAMASCUS, SYRIA (2:50 P.M.) – An attack launched by rebel militants in northern Hama countryside took a disastrous turn when the Syrian forces fought off the assault, inflicting heavy losses upon the assailants.
The FSA-affiliated Jaish al-Izza rebel group assaulted, with rockets, an Army checkpoint in Zalin town in an attempt to seize the area.
The Syrian Army, backed by National Defense Forces, responded with heavy artillery and rocket shelling which targeted positions and supply lines for the militants in Al-Lataminah and Latmen towns.
Rebels suffered heavy losses in the failed assault. A vehicle equipped with a rocket launcher was also destroyed with all militants onboard killed.
