BEIRUT, LEBANON (5:25 P.M.) – Warplanes of the Syrian Arab Air Force and Russian Aerospace Forces are going all-out across the eastern countryside of Idlib province, targeting militant defenses, gatherings, movements and bases with a tempo hitherto unseen in 2018.
Since the predawn hours and ongoing even now, every serviceable warplane at every military aerodrome in Syria has been put into the sky and given a target in eastern Idlib.
All kinds of munitions are being used – cannon, bombs (unguided and guided), rockets and missiles – to attack militant positions, convoys, bases, checkpoints and gatherings via a range of missions including tactical strike, interdiction and strategic bombardment.
The objective is simple, to paralyze the ability of rebel forces to mobilize either offensively or defensively and to burst open the door for the Syrian Army to march on its next key objective in Idlib – the city of Saraqib.
Rebel activists have released a video showing Russian Su-25 attack aircraft strafing militant convoys near Saraqib with rocket salvos.
