A Peshmerga commander speaking to a Rudaw reporter has said that the Kurdish forces will no longer participate in the Mosul liberation operation as commanded by President of the Iraqi Kurdistan Region, Masoud Barzani.
Although the Popular Mobilization Units and Peshmerga announced they will not paricipate in the battle of Mosul city, the Peshmerga have announced they will not progress further than Bashiqa, despite many kilometers till the outskirts of Mosul.
Most controversially however are bulldozers digging trenches and outlining the borders of the Kurdistan region from the rest of Iraq. This is of concern to the government of Baghdad who sees these moves as a push from separatism from the Iraqi state.
