BEIRUT, LEBANON (12:40 P.M.) – North Korea test launched four ballistic missiles from Pyongyang on Monday breaking international sanctions and invoking condemnation from Japan, China and the United Nations.
Three of the missiles came down inside Japan’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ). Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and US President Donald Trump labelled the move a “new stage of threat” and the US started to roll out a missile defense system in South Korea.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi proposed a mutual halt of military operations to ease tensions incited by the launch.
The UN Security Council also condemned the launch saying it violated North Korea’s international obligations. The Council will meet on Wednesday to discuss potential further action.
Meanwhile, South Korea has offered up to $800,000 for defectors to leave North Korea.
