The Libyan National Army (LNA) recaptured Ras Lanuf from the Benghazi Defence Brigades (BDB) according to local reports on Sunday, and is said to be moving towards Sidra in the fight over Libya’s oil crescent.
As recently as yesterday, the BDB gained control of Ras Lanuf and Sidra, but the LNA carried out a series of raids under the code-name ‘Crushing Lightning,’ in an effort to drive the BDB members out.
At least 15 LNA fighters have been killed and ten have been injured, the army reports. The number of BDB casualties could not be confirmed.
Libya’s oil terminals play a key role in the fight between the LNA and BDB. After a significant drop in production due to the conflict, around 700,000 barrels were processed a day in February. However clashes in the area have stoked fears that the facilities could suffer serious damages.
