DAMASCUS, SYRIA (8:00 P.M.) – Heavy clashes embroiled the East Ghouta town of Hawsh Dawahirah on Thursday after the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) intensified its efforts to capture the Islamist stronghold from Jaish Al-Islam.
With a battle also unfolding on another rural Damascus axis at the town of Hawsh Al-Salhiyah, Jaish Al-Islam claimed to have destroyed a T-72 and a BMP-1 tank during clashes with the SAA. In addition, the aforementioned Islamist group claimed 16 SAA soldiers had been killed.
Jaish Al-Islam used technicals, heavy weaponry and a T-72 tank of their own in a bid to repel the advancing SAA contingent, footage reveals:
Upon enquiring with a military source in the Republican Guard, Al-Masdar News was informed that the SAA armored vehicles were only damaged and had been withdrawn for repairs.
The source added that the supposed SAA death toll was less than half than what Jaish Al-Islam claimed and added that approximately a dozen Islamist fighters were killed in the battle.
