DAMASCUS, SYRIA (8:55 A.M.) – On Thursday, Failaq Al-Rahman (FSA) insurgents detonated a large tunnel bomb beneath a gathering point for the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) 4th Mechanized Division in east Damascus and filmed the entire ordeal on camera.
Subsequently, a huge dirt cloud formed over the targeted area after the explosives pulverized several buildings on the Jobar frontline:
Drone footage from the bombing revealed the explosives had targeted suspected SAA positions adjacent to the M5-highway, an embattled road that separates Damascus from the East Ghouta.
Tit-for-tat clashes have been ongoing in Jobar since 2012 as neither side has been able to dislodge the other. The neighborhood is highly strategic as it represents a gateway into the opposition’s mainland.
Multiple temporal truces have been in effect for Jobar throughout 2017; however, they have all since faltered largely due to the FSA’s alliance with Al-Qaeda (Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham).
