DAMASCUS, SYRIA (9:40 P.M.) – Ahrar Al-Sham’s elite sharpshooters have begun systematically picking away at the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) checkpoints and frontline positions bordering the rebel-held northern Homs enclave.
In a brand new video, the jihadist group showed dozens of SAA soldiers being hit by Ahrar Al-Sham’s highly experienced and battle-hardened snipers. Viewer discretion is advised:
Last week, talks began between the SAA and relatively moderate rebel factions for a ceasefire that would have the M5-highway that runs vertically through central Syria reopened. However, Ahrar Al-Sham and the more hardline Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham (HTS) have opposed the deal and increased their attacks on government positions instead.
Ever since evacuating from the provincial capital back in 2014, rebel forces have controlled some 40 villages and towns in the northern countryside of Homs. The rural region is fully ringed by the SAA but remains a low military priority due to the ongoing offensive in Deir Ezzor.
