With ISIS struggling to hold ground across Syria and Iraq, the hardline Sunni group has now turned to other means to halt advances by hostile factions.
Last week, the Syrian Army liberated the Hayyan gas field west of Palmyra. However, the facility was left largely useless after ISIS militants torched it before abandoning the site.

After losing control over most of the country’s oil and gas fields, the Syrian Government is struggling to supply its population with much needed energy resources. Nevertheless, Syrian engineers are working overtime to restore the Hayyan gas field to full functionality.
