After the fall of Palmyra earlier today, brand new footage released by Amaq Agency now suggests the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) withdrawal from the city was not as well-coordinated as initially believed. During the SAA’s retreat from the city, dozens of armored vehicles were seemingly abandoned, including Russian ones.
With the renown ancient city in central Syria once again firmly under Islamic State control, videos are emerging showing the spoils of war following the swift ISIS takeover.

In another video, ISIS militants are shown walking through the abandoned city center while gloating at the expensive of the SAA. At 0:50 below, a sign purportedly showing a Russian military base in the southern part of Palmyra is even put on display.

Meanwhile, Syrian government troops are regrouping for a counter-offensive on Palmyra’s western outskirts while an Islamic State assault on the nearby T-4 (Tiyas) Airbase was foiled on Sunday evening. The Russian Airforce has also increased its sorties in eastern Homs in response to the Islamic State offensive.
