Tras expulsar al Estado Islámico de la ciudad antigua de Palmira a primeros de marzo, los ISIS Hunters (cazadores del ISIS) entrenados por Rusia continúan su operación para asegurar los campos petrolíferos del este de Homs.

La unidad, formada recientemente, está liberando grandes extensiones del desierto controlado por la organización terrorista Estado Islámico.

Entrenados por las Fuerzas Especiales Rusas, los cazadores han sido preparados para defender y asegurar el desierto, que es una zona estratégica y económicamente importante debido a que en el se encuentran los campos petrolíferos más productivos.

ISIS comercia de forma ilegal con petróleo y gas; recursos de los que se valen para generar grandes ingresos que ayudan a la organización a reclutar nuevos combatientes y suplir sus necesidades. No obstante, los últimos enfrentamientos y bombardeos de la aviación rusa y siria han dañado seriamente el comercio de recursos del Estado Islámico.
