ISIS attacked and entered the Sardar Mohammad Daud Khan military hospital in Kabul on Wednesday morning.
Army and police surrounded the area in response, and killed four attackers in the process, ending the siege.
According to the Defense Ministry a blast occurred outside the hospital following which the terrorists entered the building. One eye witness reported seeing a gunman dressed in a white doctors coat opening fire with a concealed AK-47 assault rifle.
The 400 bed hospital in the Wazir Akbar Khan area of the capital treats military casualties from around Afghanistan.
