BEIRUT, LEBANON (1:25 P.M.) – Yesterday, ISIS militants launched a powerful offensive against pro-government forces in and around the T-2 military complex (airbase and pumping station) in southern Deir Ezzor Governorate.

The ISIS offensive was initiated under cover of a heavy sandstorm that was sweeping through the Deir Ezzor region at the time. Here Islamic State fighters hoped to surprise pro-government forces and overrun their positions around the T-2 complex.

In the event, pro-government forces managed to hold their positions during the sandstorm assault, inflicting losses on ISIS manpower and military equipment

Once the sandstorm lifted and ISIS forces near pro-government full exposed, the Syrian Army and Hezbollah wasted no time in launching a counter-offensive to drive Islamic State militants back in the direction of Abu Kamal – a key stronghold of the terrorist group near the Syrian-Iraqi border.

Recently, Hezbollah media released a video of pro-government forces launching their counter-attack after the sandstorm had passed.
