DAMASCUS, SYRIA (7:00 P.M.) – Huge dirt clouds enveloped Al-Qaboun district on Monday as the feared ‘Elephant rockets’ and Syrian airstrikes pummeled buildings held by Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham (HTS), Jaish Al-Islam and allied Free Syrian Army (FSA) groups.
The surface-to-surface Elephant rockets have been deployed by the SAA in Damascus amid an attempt to systematically wipe out rebel militants after the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) was met by fierce resistance in a government offensive that began last month:
The SAA offensive at Barzeh and Al-Qaboun is commanded by Brigadier General Ali Mahmoud and Colonel Ghayath Galla; these prominent army commanders have masterminded a number of military campaigns which have secured suburbs across the Syrian capital.
Once the 4th Mechanized Division and 106th Brigade of the Republican Guard liberate these rebel-held neighborhoods in eastern Damascus, they will be tasked with liquidating the East Ghouta pocket, a source recently informed Al-Masdar News.
Today’s insurgent death toll in the Syrian capital could not be determined by Al-Masdar News but dozens are presumed to have been killed as SAA scouts and drones directed the strikes on confirmed rebel hideouts and sniper nests. In addition, a Jaish Al-Islam commander was confirmed to have paid the ultimate price.
Meanwhile, jihadists set alight a SAA T-72 tank at the Al-Qaboun frontier yesterday:
