Houthi rebel fighters said they had shot down a drone type CH-4 operated by the Saudi coalition in northern Yemen near the Saudi region of Jizan.

CH-4 is manufactured by China and is a mixed attack and reconnaissance drone with provisions for 6 weapons and a payload of up to 250 to 345 kg.

The Saudi fighter jets conducted airstrikes targeting the exact location where the drone was shot down.

CH-4 is capable of firing air-to-ground missile from an altitude of 5,000 meters; allowing it to stay outside of effective range of most anti-aircraft guns. It also allow CH-4 to be able to fire from a position that provides wider viewing area.

This is a Civilized Place for Public Discussion

Please treat this discussion with the same respect you would a public park. We, too, are a shared community resource — a place to share skills, knowledge and interests through ongoing conversation.

These are not hard and fast rules, merely guidelines to aid the human judgment of our community and keep this a clean and well-lighted place for civilized public discourse.

Improve the Discussion

Help us make this a great place for discussion by always working to improve the discussion in some way, however small. If you are not sure your post adds to the conversation, think over what you want to say and try again later.

The topics discussed here matter to us, and we want you to act as if they matter to you, too. Be respectful of the topics and the people discussing them, even if you disagree with some of what is being said.

Be Agreeable, Even When You Disagree

You may wish to respond to something by disagreeing with it. That’s fine. But remember to criticize ideas, not people. Please avoid:

  • Name-calling
  • Ad hominem attacks
  • Responding to a post’s tone instead of its actual content
  • Knee-jerk contradiction

Instead, provide reasoned counter-arguments that improve the conversation.

5000m altitude also puts you out of any ManPADS on market ceiling.
Chang Hong-4 (CH-4) :

Considering how the wreckage is spread, it’s more likely a crash than a shoot-down : being out of range from AA-guns and ManPADS which do damages unlikely to dislocate an airframe, thus forcing a crash, at such an altitude, you’d need serious SAMs and the debris would end spreading over a way much larger area…
I bet on a technical failure, hey, CH-4 is Chinese gear and Chinese weaponry is globally renewed for 2 points : cheap prices and low quality…
