DAMASCUS, SYRIA (6:00 P.M.) – Four videos were published today by Hezbollah’s media wing showing its troops, assisted by Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) Republican Guard, in action against Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham (HTS/Al-Qaeda) in the mountainous West Qalamoun border region.
In the first day of counter-insurgency operations alone, Hezbollah and the SAA have thus far captured nine strategic sites after assembling overwhelming firepower and thousands of troops against the jihadist belligerents, thereby gradually driving them back.
Heavy firefights could be seen in the newly released footage in addition to tremendous shelling by Hezbollah on HTS targets. In some of the scenes, Hezbollah assault troops were shown overrunning key hills and hoisting their yellow flag on the imperative high points.
With pressure mounting on HTS from all sides, the SAA and Hezbollah have now provided jihadist commanders an ultimatum; either evacuate to Idlib or face total annihilation.
Regardless of the HTS’ decision on this matter, the entire Syrian-Lebanese border is expected to be brought under joint government control in the near future.
