BEIRUT, LEBANON (05:52 A.M.) – Thousands of Guatemalans have marched in the capital Guatemala City calling for the resignation of President Jimmy Morales, on Tuesday.
His popularity began to drop as his brother and eldest son are now involved in a graft investigation.
The former comedian who became president in 2015, swore to stamp out corruption in Guatemalan politics, and came to power himself after the former president was toppled and jailed for being involved on corruption scandals.
“About a year ago, Jimmy Morales won with his slogan, ‘Neither Corrupt, nor a Thief,'” said Estuardo Batz, one of the leaders of the march called by the Committee of Rural Development. “He lied to us, so he has to go.”
A Reuters reporter estimated the crowd size at about 15,000.
