BEIRUT, LEBANON (8:30 A.M.) – The Syrian army managed to establish control over huge chunks of territory in the eastern province of Homs, Monday, previously held by the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS; formerly ISIS/ISIL).

Units from the Syrian Arab Army’s 5th Legion managed to liberate several points south of Palmyra, Monday, killing and wounding scores of Islamic State militants in the process of this advance.

Video footage of this advance was captured by Ruptly; it shows Syrian Army units advancing through a large swathe of territory in east Homs.

The Syrian Arab Army will be expanding their field operations inside the eastern countryside of Homs in the coming days, as they look to expel the remaining Islamic State militants from the region.
