Protesters gathered to demonstrate against Brazil’s right-wing President, Michel Temer, as Carnival festivities kicked off in Rio de Janeiro on Friday.
Combining the party atmosphere with protest, demonstrators voiced their dissatisfaction towards Temer’s reforms at a street party, known locally as a ‘bloco,’ ahead of the traditional Sambodromo parade contests.
Valeria Mattos, protester said in Portuguese that: “We are here not only to kick Temer, we are here also to bring back the president that was elected two times, Dilma Rousseff, to the power she should have never left. We don’t only want Temer to go away.”
Victor Velasco, another protester, said in Portuguese that: “It’s a moment of happiness but its also a moment to protest, Carnival is also a political moment.”
