BEIRUT, LEBANON (9:05 P.M.) – Syrian Air Force warplanes have hammered militant defenses inside and around a key jihadist-held in the eastern countryside of Idlib province as part of a massive operation today that saw a record number of sorties unleashed since the beginning of the new year.
On Sunday, the Al-Qaeda-held city of Saraqib became the target of Syrian jets attempting to soften up rebel defenses in and around it. The raid by government warplanes witnessed no less than 20 airstrikes.
The bombing of militant positions and gathering points at Saraqib was part of a greater operation by the Syrian Air Force which saw a total of fifty airstrikes throughout all of eastern Idlib province – a record day of activity since the beginning of 2018.
Among the use of standard bombs (guided and unguided) and rockets, the Syrian Air Force also employed special fuel-air (thermobaric) bombs against rebel forces.
Footage (below) of such an attack on Saraqib was caught on camera and released by activists over social media.
