Those injured and the killed in an attack by self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS; formerly ISIS/ISIL) on the village of Aqareb, were taken to the Salamieh hospital, on Thursday.

At least 50 people, including women and children, were killed and some 100 more injured following the IS rampage through the village that occurred earlier in the day.

One eyewitness recounted that IS “they sneaked to the houses while people were sleeping; [IS] slaughtered and decapitated them.”

According to state news agency SANA, IS militants attacked homes in Aqareb, killing and beheading civilians and Syrian Arab Army (SAA) fighters. The bloodied bodies could be seen lying in the streets of the village in the aftermath.

SAA said they were able to foil two further attacks in the neighbouring villages of al-Sabbourah and al-Maboujah.

Please treat this discussion with the same respect you would a public park. We, too, are a shared community resource — a place to share skills, knowledge and interests through ongoing conversation.

These are not hard and fast rules, merely guidelines to aid the human judgment of our community and keep this a clean and well-lighted place for civilized public discourse.

Improve the Discussion

Help us make this a great place for discussion by always working to improve the discussion in some way, however small. If you are not sure your post adds to the conversation, think over what you want to say and try again later.

Be Agreeable, Even When You Disagree

You may wish to respond to something by disagreeing with it. That’s fine. But remember to criticize ideas, not people. Please avoid:
