BEIRUT, LEBANON (12:25 P.M.) – The U.S. Ambassador to Russia, Jon Huntsman, reportedly boarded one of two U.S. aircraft carriers that entered the Mediterranean waters on Tuesday to deliver a stern warning to the Russians, CNN reported on Wednesday.

Huntsman reportedly observed the operations of 9,000 sailors and marines, 130 aircraft and ten ships aboard the U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln, which is making its first trip to the Mediterranean Sea.

“When you have 200,000 tons of diplomacy that is cruising in the Mediterranean,” Huntsman told CNN, “this is forward-operating diplomacy — nothing else need to be said.”

According to the publication, the U.S. and other western countries have accused Russia of displaying “bad behavior” in countries like Ukraine, Syria, and Venezuela.

The move by the U.S. comes just a week after Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad met with several Russian officials to discuss a number of topics, including the potential lease of the Tartous naval base for 49 years.

The U.S. is also concerned about Russia’s activities inside of Venezuela, as Washington recently accused Moscow of sending troops to Caracus in order to help the government of Nicolas Maduro.

Russia has denied these accusations, saying that they are providing humanitarian aid to the people under the World Health Organization (WHO).

200 000 tons of sitting ducks for the KH-47M2 Kinzhal flying at Mach 10-12, 500kg warhead !
Good luck Trump !

KH-47M2 Kinzhal isn’t flying at Mach 10-12 : it’s an Iskander => no more than Mach 5.9 and 600km range, there are no MiG-31K nor Tu-22M around then… You seem not to know what Aegis is… RIM-161D block IA/B : 900km range, Mach 10.2 RIM-161D block IIA : 2,500km range, Mach 15.25 Then you have RIM-174 ERAM which compared to THAAD Add RIM-166 with 21 SHORADs per launcher Then Phalanx CIWS. You’d have to take your MiG-31K or Tu-22M enough close to the fleet to be able to launch first, then go through a 5 layers air defences… If you… Read more »

The US generals did not say that the time Putin anounced the New Weapons. They admitted they have no cover for such weapons.

No problem to intercept an Iskander or Khinzal (which are the same things) RIM-161D is absolutely fit for it, or even worst : exoatmospheric interception of ballistic missiles or satellites… Be aware : you seem not to know the dance between the chiefs of staffs and the MIC… Between a $7k a month pension as a general or admiral and a $400k/year + advantages/tuitions paid at LockMart, Boeing, Northrop, Ingalls, Raytheon or whatever… Ohhh, yeah, “we have no cover” before the Senate Defense Commission, then how surprising, you have LM, Boeing or Raytheon proposing a solution which will cost $44… Read more »

yea sure buddy.. you start it and we´ll see where those carriers will end up.. Even Iran can sink them, let alone russia.. you seem to have zero knowledge and rabling a lot of c**p you read on some pentagon financed site.. for your info: no system can shoot down 100% of incoming threats, US best systems have a max 30% accuracy and that is on known ballistic trajectory, and few targets , as soon as the warhead can evade or increase velocity and specially when the nr of threats increase then the % will decrease dramatically.. and its been… Read more »

Aegis is the same system that is on the Donald cook and the same system Russia disabled leaving the cook a floating target in the Baltic sea, causing about 30 sailors to want to leave the ship

Pazazu : 1.) USS Donald Cook was NEVER deployed in the Baltic. 2.) On 12 April 2014, an unarmed Russian Su-24 Fencer fighter jet made twelve close-range passes of USS Cook during a patrol of the western Black Sea. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ylONaw4ODuk 3.) You’ve seen the video, it’s clean, no parasites, etc… You seem to know little about electronic warfare. If some system had been able to disable the Cook, you wouldn’t had seen this clean footage since the camera would have been disabled, in fact, considering the directed energy needed to disable a NON SHIELDED radar system, the camera’s capacitors and… Read more »

o my god.. first of all : it was in the black sea.. and the sailors crapped their pants.. just the fact that you dont know what sea this was make all the rest of your made up info void.. you´re making up a lot of things here. Aegis cannot shoot down 100s of targets thousands of miles away.. or they´d used it in saudi to shoot down Houti missiles. and do you think they´d put the sailors resignation letters on CNNs website to download or what? Iran took over the command satellite for all the drones over Iraq and… Read more »

First, as usual, you’re the one getting stuff all wrong, you keep on reasoning with sums whereas layers are specialized : indeed each and every single one is for a dedicated flight profile and offensive asset, meaning that a given Russian missile type does not have to go through all of them at once, which in turn means that for instance, say the upper ballistic layers like THAAD or RIM-171Ds miss an incoming Iskandar, it’s certainly NOT the lesser tiers such as CIWS or SHORADS that will make it in even scratching a hypersonic missile. Second, Russia will never send… Read more »

Not really. A carrier fleet is not a civilian oil tanker… Aegis makes both S-500 and A-235 look a bit pussÿ, you know… It can even shoot down spy satellites. RIM-161D is very efficient and can shoot even IRBMs at 2,500km… You’ll have to be very lucky to achieve a hit, or use a Topol-M… If you want to go after a carrier fleet, the best way is submarines, and better have really good and very stealth ones… Any way, I doubt Putin being enough dumb to attack US-Navy as I doubt as much about Trump engaging into attacking the… Read more »

Considering the S-500 and its public specs are not even out yet, some Russian versions of the S-400 and recently retrofitted S-350s already take out satellites and are recognized by the US DoD as having sub-orbital interception capabilities, and the S-300 was the first in the world to even have a remote chance at achieving that, with demonstrated interception test to prove it with radar and IR data long before the US had anything similar within its own capabilities. Hence I very much doubt your claim on them being supposedly dwarfed by an unproven Aegis ship and its less-capable interceptors… Read more »

Nope, it’s just diversion, just like the Venezuela sabre rattling. CVN-74 J.C. Stennis and LHD-3 Kearsarge (which is said packed with 20 F-35B at the moment) are close to Hormuz while CVN-74 was in the Mediterranean 2 weeks ago. CVN-75 Harry Truman was in the mid of the Atlantic in the direction of Gibraltar 5 days ago, officially for sustainment training. My two cents the Abe (CVN-72) will soon cross the Suez channel and CVN-75 will be in the Mediterranean sea. CVN-69 Eisenhower is also heading to the east, officially for flight deck certification and CQ w. the carrier air… Read more »

Is there a probabiility that Iran could sink US ships and send all those sailors to death? Do you think the US could accept 1000 dead Americans for the benefit of Natanyahoo? I don’t think so.

Oh, they lost 5,000 in Iraq, 50,000 in Vietnam and 400,000 during WW2, even more during the Civil War.
Government Issues (G.I.’s) are expandable, morover, they’re no more drafted for long…
Japan sunk much more than a ship and killed 2,500 when they attacked Pearl Harbour…
A casus belli to trample the mullahs under foot?
No problem, Trump will take it rather seeing the crazy mullahs with their fanaticism go nuclear in a few years.
In fact, it’s a long overdue, Carter should have done this in 1979 when the mullahs’ thugs stormed the US embassy.

First, there is a serious clickbait here : it’s CNN or AMN viewing it as a message to the Russians, which is absolutely STUPID : there is ALWAYS an US carrier fleet in the Mediterranean while USS John C.Stennis was moved from the Mediterranean to the Gulf last week as part of the 5th fleet which had no CVN for a few months, only a LHD. This is the classic 6th fleet deployment in the Mediterranean and 5th fleet in the Gulf/Red Sea area. As usual, CNN “analysts” ridiculed themselves and obviously, the diplomat didn’t spoke about any “message” to… Read more »
