BEIRUT, LEBANON (1:20 P.M.) – A U.S. warplane was tracked by regional observers off the coast of Latakia, today, after flying from their base in the central Mediterranean.

According to Elint News, a U.S. Air Force RC-135V Rivet Joint was monitored off the coast of Latakia; it was preceded by a P-8 the previous day.

The U.S. warplane was reportedly bound for an airbase in the southeastern part of the Mediterranean.

The U.S. Air Force often conducts similar flights near the Latakia coast; however, they rarely enter Syrian airspace.

When the U.S. bombed Syrian government installations in Damascus in April 2018, several of their spy planes were seen along the Latakia and Tartous coast.

Following these flights in the eastern Meditteranean, several U.S. warplanes reportedly carried out targeted strikes on the positions of the Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL/IS/Daesh) in eastern Syria.

The U.S. warplanes reportedly struck the Islamic State’s positions inside the town of Al-Shafah and nearby Al-Sousah.

RC-135V Rivet Joint = ELINT (electronic intelligence) spy plane.
P-8A Poseidon = MarPat (maritime patrol)/anti-submarine+ships warfare.
Actually, these aren’t in combat missions since they let their civilian transponders “on” and can be tracked through civilian ATC, e.g. on flyradar.com
