BEIRUT, LEBANON (11:00 A.M.) – The U.S. State Department said on Tuesday that they hope the Russian Federation did not deliver the S-300 systems to Syria because if they did, it would be a “serious escalation.”
“I cannot confirm that that is accurate. I hope that they did not, that would be a serious escalation and concern,” Nauert said when asked about the administration’s reaction to reports Russia had sent S-300 systems to Syria.
The Russian Ministry of Defense announced on Tuesday evening that they shipped the S-300 missile defense system to the Syrian military.
Video footage and photos from the Latakia Governorate last night confirmed the Russian government’s delivery of the S-300 system to the Syrian military.
With the S-300 in their arsenal, the Syrian military now boasts a much stronger air defense system than ever before.
