BEIRUT, LEBANON (4:20 P.M.) – U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Tuesday that the United States will prevent Iran from acquiring Russian and Chinese weapons, despite the fact the international arms embargo on Iran expires on October 18.

According to Asharq Al-Awsat, Pompeo told “France Inter” radio on Tuesday: “Nothing has been done so far to enable the extension of this ban, and therefore the United States assumed its responsibilities,” referring to the differences between Americans and Europeans in this regard.

He added, “We will act in this manner. We will prevent Iran from acquiring Chinese tanks and Russian air defense systems, and after that, selling weapons to Hezbollah undermines the efforts of French President Emmanuel Macron in Lebanon.”

In 2018, the United States withdrew from the agreement on the Iranian nuclear program, and subsequently re-imposed harsh sanctions on Iran, which it accused of having an expansionist tendency in the Middle East by supporting local groups such as Hezbollah in Lebanon.

On August 21, Washington activated at the United Nations the “Snapback” mechanism to re-impose international sanctions on Iran, including an extension of the arms embargo.

The overwhelming majority of Security Council members (13 out of 15), including the countries participating in the Iran nuclear deal, rejected the validity of the mechanism implemented by the United States to extend the sanctions against the Islamic Republic.

According to these countries, Washington has been withdrawn from the nuclear deal since 2018, and does not have a legal basis to launch a mechanism for re-imposing international sanctions at the United Nations in this context.

I thnk Trump is gone mad. He should know that when a man divorces his wife, man has no RIGHT to sleep with ex-wife (vica versa), but trump want to do that, divorce JCPOA still want to be treated as part of JCPOA.

Problem: Russia, China or Europe cannot stop USA from selling arms to Israel, Arab world, Japan, Taiwan, UK or EU … in same way, USA cannot stop Russia, China or any other country from selling arms to Iran. USA can ‘Huff and Puff’ on behalf of his allies but cannot even blow away a fly.

In the west, you have the right to sleep (and shag) anyone who wants to do so with you.

We all sell to/buy from these countries.

China or Russia are nowhere near to be as influential as the USA, and the EU, as well as near all Asia side with the US. If China wants to have more serious weight, it needs to become a democracy first.

I doubt that Iran sells gear to Hezb, giving would be more accurate.
It’s a bad calculation from the US : they could push to upgrade UNSC Res.1701 in order to ban arms sales to those who arm the Lebanese militias.

Bah, USA can intercept the arms shipping to Iran just the way Israel does for Hezbollah. Iran attacks the US through proxies, US have the right to retaliate directly on Iran since Iran started the war by invading the US embassy in 1979.

They probably didn’t acted since it boosts their arms sales in the Gulf. They’ve sinned by not lifting the little finger for the Shah, just as they didn’t for France in 1940. Soon up or later, when you let it all rotten, you end having to act.

First of all, Russian and Chinese arms would not be coming to iran from sea … on the other hand, if usa would intercept Russian or Chinese ships in Sea, Russia and China could intercept American ship in sea too. Leave Russia or China, even Iran can torpedo and sink American ships intercepting them in sea. Today, Russia is supplying arms to Syria in big way using sea route and USA could do nothing, just watch and s**t. Similarly, Iran is suplying fuel and goods to Venazula using sea route, with warning to USA that if USA intercept, they would… Read more »

Did I meant at sea? They can intercept it in Iran, just like Israel does in Syria: ports, airports, are not a problem.

“USA could do nothing other than s**t.”

Oh yes they can… They even can wipe out Iran from the map if they decide so, and nobody will even lift the little finger to stop them!

BTW, China has no allies, and if you think that China or Russia will start a war on USA to protect trade with Iran, you’re deluded! D’you know why the US still haven’t flushed the ayatoilets?
