BEIRUT, LEBANON (12:30 P.M.) – In a new interview with the Washington Post, U.S. President Donald Trump said that U.S. troops will remain in the Middle East for Israel.
“One reason to (stay in the Middle East—ed.) is Israel,” Trump said, as quoted by Ynet News.
“Oil is becoming less and less of a reason because we’re producing more oil now than we’ve ever produced. So, you know, all of a sudden it gets to a point where you don’t have to stay there…” Trump continued.
The U.S. President then turned his attention to Saudi Arabia, who he called a “great ally” and useful source to counterbalance Iran.
“They’ve (Saudi Arabia) been a great ally. Without them, Israel would be in a lot more trouble… We need to have a counterbalance to Iran,” he added.
