BEIRUT, LEBANON (10:00 A.M.) – State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert stated that if Syrian government ‘cared so much about what was put in the air, it wouldn’t be gassing its own people’ after she received criticism over the United States’ refusal to join the 2015 Paris Climate Accord despite Syria’s recent agreement, Tuesday.
“I find it ironic that the Government of Syria would say that it wants to be involved and that it cares so much in climate and things like CO2 gases. If the Government of Syria cared so much about what was put in the air, then it wouldn’t be gassing its own people,” Nauert elaborated.
She also spoke about the situation in Ukraine as well as the roles of Saudi Arabia and Iran in the Middle East and on the world stage.
“I think we know exactly where the responsibility lies in the region for much of the destabilisation, and we’ve seen the activities of Iran,” explained Nauert. “Where they show up, trouble tends to follow.”
