BEIRUT, LEBANON (10:00 P.M.) – A U.S. soldier may have been killed during a Turkish Army attack on the Kurdish-led People’s Protection Units’ (YPG) positions near the border city of Kobani, the pro-opposition Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported over the weekend.

“The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights learned that ambiguity still surrounds the killing of a US soldier in the ranks of the US Forces in Aleppo countryside, on the 28th April 2019, where despite the American information that the soldier was killed in a shooting incident in Zor Magar area in the countryside of Ayn al-Arab (Kobani) city, but the accusation fingers are pointing to Turkey, which targeted on the same day an armored vehicle in the area,” the SOHR report claimed.

Despite these claims, the U.S. military maintains that the soldier was killed by accidental gunfire in the Kobani area.

Kobani has been under the control of the YPG and Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) since the early years of the Syrian conflict.

In early 2015, the YPG scored a decisive victory against the Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL/IS/Daesh) at Kobani, ending the terrorist group’s advancement along the Turkish border and paving the way for an important Spring offensive by the Kurdish-led forces.
