BEIRUT, LEBANON (3:00 P.M.) – The U.S. is pressuring Jordan to close their two border crossings with Syria and freeze all trade with their neighbor to the north, Russia Today reported over the weekend.

According to the Arabic language version of Russia Today, the U.S. pressure on Jordan has forced the country to ban Syrian imports, which has greatly impacted trade between the neighboring Levantine countries.

Furthermore, Russia Today reported that the U.S. is pressuring Jordan to close the Nassib and Jaber border crossings with Syria.

The U.S. is reportedly trying to tighten its sanctions on Syria in a bid to force the government to adhere to their demands.

These sanctions have been detrimental to millions of Syrians as the oil blockade has created a shortage inside the country.

The U.S. currently controls most of Syria’s oil fields in the eastern and northeastern part of the country; this has forced the government to rely on smuggling oil from SDF-held areas and purchasing this resource from neighboring Lebanon.

Iran, who was Syria’s largest supplier of oil, has been prohibited from entering the Mediterranean if their tankers are destined for a Syrian port.

The US is truly the homeland of evil. The United States occupies the eastern areas of Syria where the oil fields are. Which means that Syria must import petroleum products. Due to the sanctions, Syria has imported petroleum products from Iran. Which USA doesn’t like. The United States has only one goal; Crush all states that don’t do as they are dictated by the dictatorship of the United States Therefore, the Iranian oil tankers hinder access to the Mediterranean. Not only that. Syria has again managed to gain control of the borders against Jordan, so that trade with Jordan is… Read more »

The insurrection against the SDF continue to increase in the northeastern Syria, SDF losing many men, protests, attacks, killing hit the SDF controlled regions. SDF weaker day by day, it is a good thing for the government forces, and not a single word from this shitty Saudi propaganda website called Al Masdar news. LOL

One can ask, what has Syria that sells as export and does it has money to pay for what it imports. The same can be asked for Jordan. Both states are on the verge of becoming failed states.

Except that USA is nowhere near to be bankrupt. In fact, US economy does pretty well. Many don’t get that what they call debt includes the money USA loans to other countries, and they actually receive more interests on the money they loan than on the money they borrow. Many also mistake GDP nominal with GDP/PPP, PPP meaning ‘purchase power parity’In fact, this is a tool to estimate the GDP (PPP) per capita, in order to determine the life standards in a country, e.g, have a coffee in a bar in France, you’re likely to pay 1.5-2€, have a coffee… Read more »

On top of that, US has a large surplus in services. Every time one looks at a movie, goes to google, facebook, the US makes money. Right now, here, this discussion makes money for the US.

Low level discussion when one can only reply in quasi witticism but does not have the answer to real questions?

Vegatables and food which needs to pass through Syria to Lebanon and the Mediteranean, suprisingly Syria growd food and manufacture goods. Its like all US land borders being closed no oil, no food stuffs, medicines, cars, or domestic products. Its unilateral bullshit

Thus, since the main industrial area was Aleppo and Turks looted all factories equipments, manufacturing is not great nowadays…
In case of US land borders closed, and even with a maritime blockade, it wouldn’t be a major issue : the country, just like Russia, is enough big and has enough domestic energy resources to function in autarky without major issues… Moreover, they’re both enough strong to break a blockade and make you pay dearly for it…
USA abuses of its “soft power” to put pressure and obtain what it wants… It’s cheaper than using the military and often more efficient.

Karel : it’s obvious that Jordan is under economical perfusion of USA+KSA…
In fact, it’d had been better for local Arabs, had the Brits gave full Palestine = Israel+Jordan to the Zionists, especially since the Hashemites are not really wrapped tight : they lost the Hejaz (Mecca) kingdom to the Bani-Saud, they lost Syria to the mandate system and they lost Iraq in 1958, thanks to the incompetence of then 23y old king Faysal-II.

I agree with your assassment on the political and economic performance of the hashemites. As far as I know, there has only one arab kingdom with a positive performance: Oman.

Gulfstates were only lucky in their oil finds. Without them they would have been dirt poor.
