The US Department of State designated Abu Mohammed al-Adnani as a ‘Specially Designated Global Terrorist.’
In a statement announced Monday, the designation prohibits U.S. persons against engaging in transactions with al-Adnani, and freezes all property and interests of al-Adnani that are in the United States, or come within the United States or the possession or control of U.S. persons.
“Abu Mohammed al-Adnani, whose real name is Taha Sobhi Falaha, was born in 1977 in Binnish near Aleppo in northern Syria and is the official representative for and a senior leader of the ‘Islamic State’ (formally, The Islamic State of Iraq And The Levant).
Abu Mohammad al-Adnani, the IS spokesman, was placed on the list after announcing June 30 the establishment of a caliphate in territory the group controls in northern Iraq and Syria.
