American and allied forces from the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have conducted a landing operation near the city of Tabqa in northern province of al-Raqqa.

The landing forces, which were airdropped in Abu Hurairah village on the eastern bank of the Euphrates, managed to cut off the highway linking al-Raqqa to Aleppo province.

Beside ousting the Islamic State from Tabqa city, the operation also aims at halting the advance made recently by the Syrian Army in eastern Aleppo countryside, thus preventing the government troops from marching on to western bank of the Euphrates.

The small villages captured by the US and allied forces will serve as a crossing points for further forces crossing the river by boats.

The Kurdish militia – backed by the US-led coalition – is waging a military campaign to expel ISIS from its de-facto capital of al-Raqqa.

Rate Article :       There is no reason to bedevil the SDF constantly on Al-Masdar. And the content is wrong. This daring operation aimed to secure the Taqba dam itself and to cut Raqqah from any support by the Daesh minions fleeing from Deir Hafer etc. They are preventing nobody but all terrorist factions from anything. Get in your mind that the SDF does NOT want to split Syria and is opposed to the so-called “democratic” Barzani factions, who are the only “Kurdish” whilst self-appointed representatives hanging around in Washington always promoting that. The SAA will have its hands full… Read more »

Thx for clarifying what happened, brother! I agree. Except Barzani is fishing for allies where he can – when he began only US and Turkey
were available. He has them for oil exports. And disagreement is old tradition between Kurds.

Yes AFAIR it is an old tradition in maritime doctrine (US/UK) to discard mercenaries and allies when used enough. Hope the SDF really take that into account.

There is however more than one reason to bedevil the U.S… I call and recall Jihad on the greater devil.

Enjoy that SAA cavalry arrives. They will bring tanks and other heavy gear.

Old school air dropping still has MANY advantages over the chopper high use over last decades, especially that now precision air drops can be achieved. You simply can air drop full battalions including armoured ones with less much risks than by using choppers.

Indeed. This operation is only superficially aimed against ISIS, but really against the government. Nothing to cheer for.
